Job Description:
In this role, you will be part of a team of Technical and Quality specialists that supports the day to day operations of the Laboratory. The winning combination of collaboration, skills, knowledge, experience and the support of this team will be the building blocks of working towards a successful career as an Instrument Specialist in this petrochemical Laboratory environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research on new technologies and industry developments to keep Suncor up-to-date with the changing technological developments.
- Develop and provide recommendations for equipment layout and organization for optimum operating efficiency in the Laboratory.
- Manage and implement the inventory management of spare parts required for instruments.
- Co-ordinate service and maintenance calls when required
- Establish a relationship with equipment vendors and support groups to provide maintenance, external calibration as required and repair expertise when needed.
- Ensure that test methods and instructions are current and in place for the safe and reliable operation of the instruments in accordance with the industry established procedures and applied reference Standards.
- Lead and conduct trials on new methodologies, and on optimization and enhancement of existing test methodologies.
- Ensure the equipment are available to meet the Laboratory’s analytical testing requirements. This includes maintenance and repair of the instruments.
Job Requirements:
- A post-secondary diploma/degree in Chemistry
- Alignment with our values safety above all else, stronger together, operational discipline, curiosity and lifelong learning, and act with integrity
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office, Excel, SAP applications
- Good background and understanding of ISO17025 Quality Management Systems.
- Five to ten years of related operational Laboratory experience.
- Strong analytical chemistry and instrumentation background is required.
- Good working knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Strong self-management skills, along with strong communication skills (written and verbal) are required.
